In 2013, “James Howells” gave his ex-fiancée, “Halfina Eddy-Evans,” a hard drive containing 8,000 Bitcoin, which at the time had little value, asking her to dispose of it. Unaware of the treasure inside, she discarded it at a landfill. Now that the Bitcoins are worth $787 million, Howells is in a legal battle with the Newport City Council to obtain permission to dig up the landfill and recover the lost cryptocurrency.
