El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele has stated that the country is prepared to buy Bitcoin seized by the U.S. government at a discount. This follows the U.S. Department of Justice’s approval to sell approximately 69,370 Bitcoins confiscated from the Silk Road darknet marketplace. Bukele wrote: “We will continue our strategy of buying Bitcoin, and we may make more purchases.” El Salvador has already accumulated 6,022 Bitcoins and plans to purchase an additional 20,000 by 2025. Bukele emphasized that the country’s Bitcoin policies will remain unchanged, even after reaching an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
